  • We're off on a journey where did we go.....

Wed 21 Mar 2018 Donna Weeks

Inspired by the story 'The Train Ride' by June Crebbin, the children headed off to Tonbridge Station for the start of their train adventure and the continuation of their learning journey.

Heading into Tunbridge Wells, the children enjoyed the views from the train windows, before heading outside of the station and carrying out a data handling activity, comparing the vehicles they see at school, to the vehicles they saw in town.

Back at school, the children used their experience to create their own 'Train Ride' stories.

  • Celebrating Community Links with Barnes Lodge Care Home

Thu 08 Mar 2018 Mrs Weeks

'Community a group of people living in a particular area. A group of people; friends, family, and neighbors who are there for us when we need love, support and encouragement.'

Today Bishop Chavasse children and staff experienced a truly magical occasion, one which we all will remember for many years to come.

Today as a school, we established a link with some of our local neighbors who live in Barnes Lodge Care Home.  Both young and old came together to enjoy each other's company for the morning and new friendships were forged.

The children took Mother's Day cards and flowers from our school to the female residents at the care home and enjoyed playing board games with the residents.

Watching our children talk about their school to the residents and play games with them was incredibly moving.  There were many special moments throughout our visit.  One of my favorite moments had to be when a particularly quiet child asked a lady to play hook the duck with him and he supported her frail hand to hold the cane and get the duck on the end. They then chatted together as they hooked the remaining ducks.

There were tender moments today which caused my staff and the staff at Barnes Lodge to shed a tear, which is why we are thrilled that today was the first of many visits when our communities will come together and enjoy each other's company.

We look forward to making Easter bonnets together during our next visit.

Special thanks go to the staff at Barnes Lodge and Nickie, Kay and Kate for making today such a success and to Chris at Tesco for supporting us by providiing the daffodils we gave the residents today.

  • World Book Day

Mon 05 Mar 2018 Mrs Donna Weeks

This morning I was met by a wonderful sight as I welcomed children and parents at the school gates. Instead of children dressed in their usual smart, school uniform, this had been replaced by a colorful array of costumes, representing a range of characters from both well known traditional tales to those less familiar characters.

Today, as a school, we came together and celebrated World Book day, an opportunity to sit and enjoy books, spending time talking about our favorite stories and discussing why we enjoy them.  We ensured that we grasped every opportunity to share our love of stories and promote the wonderful pastime of reading.

Our day was made all the more special when so many of our parents came to share their own personal favorites with the children.  Thank you one and all, for demonstrating as always, how wonderful our parent community is, and how active you all are in supporting your child's love of learning.  Thank you also for enabling your child to take part in this special celebration of books and for sharing this memorable event with us today. You certainly have made our day very special.
