Pupil Premium
The Pupil Premium grant provides funding to improve educational outcomes for disadvantaged pupils in state-funded schools in England. The grant also provides support for children and young people of service families.
Children who receive the Pupil Premium grant, receive free school meals. If you are eligible and you register your child will get:

A choice of delicious, healthy hot meals every school day at no cost - this is worth £470 a year per child and recognised to improve behaviour and learning

Meals to cater for cultural, dietary, and religious requirements

The chance to develop social skills by sitting with friends for a school meal
From September 2026, the Government has widened eligibility for free school meals, meaning more children can now receive a free, nutritious meal at school each day. We really welcome this additional support for families.
There are now two types of eligibility:
- Targeted Free School Meals – children receive a free school meal and their eligibility also brings additional Pupil Premium funding into school, helping us provide further support and opportunities for children.
- Expanded Free School Meals – the new, wider entitlement. Children receive exactly the same free school meal, but this category does not generate Pupil Premium funding for school.
If your child is in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2, they already receive a free meal through the universal infant scheme. It is still really important to check whether you qualify for Targeted Free School Meals, as this can provide additional funding and support.
