Bishop Chavasse Primary School will provide excellent pastoral care and enrichment opportunities. These will range from opportunities to enhance thinking skills within a variety of contexts to additional ‘keeping up’ opportunities in mathematics and English. As the school grows with each new cohort, we will develop the range and number of clubs and activities on offer.
We want to make the most of activities, both integrated into the curriculum, and beyond it. Throughout the Early Years these will be embedded through a range of opportunities, including ‘Plan, Do and Review’, creative play, ‘Messy Church’, Forest Schools, role play, visits and enrichment activities. As our children progress into Key Stages 1 and 2, these will then be further enhanced through drama, public speaking, poetry recital and debating to enable them to become confident in speaking and listening.
Our house system will help build strong relationships with and between our children where they will have opportunities to learn from each other and allow for healthy competition through inter-house academic, artistic and sporting competitions. Our houses are named after four Bishops from the Diocese of Rochester.
As an excellent way to round off a successful primary school career and set our children on their new path with confidence, all of our Year 6 children will be offered a residential visit of four nights, five days at an activity centre, to undertake a range of challenging and enjoyable physical and cultural experiences.
Transition to secondary school
We know that moving on to their next phase of education with confidence is crucial. Our Year 6 children will be “secondary ready”, in the sense that they are fully prepared to make a smooth transition to a secondary school, with a record of high achievement to build on over their secondary career. Our Year 5 and 6 children will benefit from taster sessions at our lead secondary school, Bennett Memorial, and will gain a huge amount of experience from shared subject specialist teaching and high quality specialist facilities. This will prepare our children for the teaching styles and curricular content of any secondary school in the area.
