Welcome to my first Headteacher’s Blog
Bishop Chavasse Primary School

Welcome to my first Headteacher’s blog in which I will share with you my news and experiences as we prepare to open our doors to our Founding Families in September.

These are exciting times for our school, the founding families we are looking to welcome in September, the parish of St. Stephen’s and the community of South Tonbridge.  My blogs over the coming weeks will capture a flavour of the journey we are taking together towards the memorable day when our parents hand over their precious children on the first day of their primary schooling.

The last few weeks has witnessed an increased pace in the drive towards opening our brand new school in September. Having received planning permission just before the end of last term, we were finally able to place a banner at 2a Baker Lane, Tonbridge, signalling to everyone that our school will be opening on the site in September 2017. It was great to finally be able to stake a  claim to our land.

One of our new Reception teachers, Mrs Krisztene Turner was equally excited by the arrival of the banner and could not resist the temptation to take a number of photographs of herself next to the school site.

Although I have been working alongside my colleagues at the Tenax Trust  and members of the Bishop Chavasse team and since January, it was with great pride that on Tuesday the 18th of April I officially took on the role of Founding Headteacher of Bishop Chavasse Church of England Primary School, which was particularly fitting and made all the more special as it was also National Offer Day the day that we sent out sixty offers of places to the our founding pupils and their families.

We were pleased that we were able to go into National Offer Day with a waiting list.  However I know from my own personal experience with my own children, albeit a number of years ago now, how disappointing this can be as a parent when you are informed that you were not successful in securing a place for your child in your first choice school.  Therefore I am pleased that I have been able to speak with a number of disappointed parents, reassuring them that we are confident that we will be able to offer September places to children on our reserve list once other parents begin to confirm whether they are taking up their offer with us or not.  If your child was placed on the reserve list for our school and you would like to discuss this further, please don’t hesitate to email me at [email protected] or contact Katherine Wagstaff on 01892 521595

As parents and carers, you are the first educators of your child and as such I am looking forward to working with you all very closely as we look to grow our school as an outstanding school for your child.  For this reason, I actively seek and value your contributions and commitment in working with us to give your child the very best educational experiences.  Therefore if at any point you have any questions or comments I would be happy to receive them and encourage you to email me at [email protected]. We have, a busy few weeks ahead of us all before the opening of your school, a school for our Bishop Chavasse families, a school that I am incredibly proud and excited to lead.
