Our Weekly News
Year 3's news - W/e 27th September 2024
This week, the children in Year 3 have been extending their writing skills by planning and writing their own narratives. They have been putting themselves in the role of an ancient Egyptian traveller who encounters a pyramid and finds themselves involved in a disaster. Today (Friday) they will be starting to write their stories, and we are looking to get them up on display to share with you next week once they are completed. In Math’s, our topic of Place Value has continued, and we have been looking at numbers up to 1,000 on a number line, their position, and comparing and ordering numbers by using Place Value. In Reading Strands our adventures with Marcy and Arthur continue and the children are really becoming immersed in this story and learning some of the gods and goddesses’ names through the story. The work we do in Reading Strands involves comprehension as well as recalling details through other activities so if you have any opportunities to ask questions about the book your child is reading over the weekend then please do explore this activity as it really helps them to retain information from the text. In our topic work we have enjoyed learning greetings in Latin; understanding the water cycle in Geography; how Egypt has changed over time in History, and learning about the ways Christians show that they care about the World in Religious Education.
Early bird and intervention / extension groups have begun and we appreciate the effort made by parents to get the children in on time for these. We will endeavor to ensure we are there on time to greet the children, and we apologise for delays that were encountered this week while we got these groups up and running. We will be sending out more emails on Monday to let you know of any amendments we have made to these groups now we have the first week completed.
With best wishes

Year 3’s news - w/e 20th September 2024
Week 3 for the children of 3A and 3LT and they are starting to become more familiar with the work and expectations that are part of becoming part of the Key stage two family. In English the children have continued to delve into the world of Ancient Egypt and extend their sentence structures by discovering how to use prepositions, inverted commas and adverbs. We are looking forward to planning and writing our Egyptian narratives next week! In Maths, the children have been continuing to look at Place value and partitioning and have been using base 10 units to support their learning. Marcy and the Riddle of the Spinx is our class book at the moment and the children are really enjoying experiencing the journey of Marcy and her father, Arthur.
Not only are the children enjoying the story of Marcy, they are gaining valuable skills in comprehension, inference, comparing and contrasting and prediction through their Reading Strands activities.
In Science, the children have learnt what an aim and prediction is and are ready to investigate the hardness, how permeable, and how buoyant certain rocks are.
In Topic, the children have learnt about the River Indus in geography, and have created wonderful maps of Ancient Egypt, to show the River Nile.
The children have also continued to work hard in their handwriting practice and we are very proud of them for continuing to step up to the weekly challenges we set them.
We hope you and your family have a restful and enjoyable weekend.
