Ancient Egypt Day at School

We had an exciting Ancient Egypt Day filled with fun learning and hands-on activities! The day began with an interactive timeline where the children discovered when the ancient Egyptians lived and explored key moments in their history.

Throughout the day, the children asked lots of thoughtful questions, showing their curiosity and eagerness to learn more. Everyone got hands-on with the activities, which made the experience even more memorable.

Some children created Anubis masks from black paper, bringing the ancient god to life, while others worked on battle formations, learning how Egyptian soldiers planned their moves.

In the afternoon, the children explored the fascinating process of embalming and mummification through interactive activities. They also delved into the work of archaeologists and enjoyed decoding hieroglyphics, the mysterious writing of ancient Egypt.

The whole school looked amazing, with everyone dressed up in fantastic costumes, adding to the fun and atmosphere of the day. It was a wonderful experience full of creativity, teamwork, and discovery, helping our children connect with history in a truly unforgettable way!

We've also been planning for a final trap explanation piece of writing for the Iron Man and continuing to solve column subtraction number sentences.

Week Ending 3rd October 2025

In Maths, we have been learning how to use column addition and subtraction. The children have shown great concentration when lining up their numbers carefully and working through calculations step by step – well done!

In English, we let our imaginations run wild as we designed and explained our very own traps for the Iron Man. The children have come up with some wonderfully inventive ideas and used powerful vocabulary to bring their traps to life.

In History, we discovered the fascinating process of mummification in Ancient Egypt. The children were amazed by the details and asked some excellent questions. We are now really looking forward to our hands-on history workshop next week – it promises to be an exciting experience!

In Latin, we are learning how to say mother and father and even practised asking some simple questions. The class had great fun trying out the new words and showed brilliant enthusiasm for this ancient language.

A big well done to everyone in Year 3 for their hard work, creativity and enthusiasm this week – we are very proud of you all!

Week Ending 26th September 2025

Can't believe we are nearly halfway through the first term.

In English, we retold the story of The Iron Man. We focused on making our writing exciting by using powerful adjectives, a variety of prepositions, different prefixes, and direct speech. We also thought carefully about how to make our sentences longer and more interesting, and how to describe the characters and settings in detail.

In Maths, we have continued working on adding and subtracting ones within two- and three-digit numbers. We practised using number lines, partitioning, and column methods to help us solve problems accurately. We also worked on explaining our reasoning and checking our answers in different ways.

In History, we really enjoy learning about the Ancient Egyptians. We have been finding out what life was like for people who lived thousands of years ago and why they are remembered as such an important civilisation. Next week, we will be looking at the fascinating process of mummification and discovering why it was so important to the Egyptians.

Week Ending 19th September 2025

This week in class has been so much fun!

In music, we are learning to play the ukulele and getting to know all the parts of this tiny, awesome instrument—like the strings, frets, and tuning pegs.

In art, we’ve been experimenting with shading to make our drawings look real, practising how to show textures that are soft, rough, shiny, or bumpy. And in history, we travelled back in time to learn about the very first pyramid ever built, called the Step Pyramid of Djoser, which has seven steps! We imagined the people who worked hard to build it and thought about why they made it in that special shape.

Every day is full of new things to try, explore, and discover—and we’re having a blast doing it!

Week Ending 12th September 2025

This week at school has been really fun and full of new things! In English, we created our own Iron Man poems, using noun phrases and suffixes to make our writing exciting and descriptive. We loved sharing our poems with the class and listening to everyone’s ideas. In Science, we started learning about the different types of rocks and even looked at some real samples to see how they were different. The best part, though, was in Latin, where we learned some basic conversation skills. It was great fun practising greetings and short phrases, and we even imagined what it would be like to be real Romans!

We’ve also been working hard on getting used to our new routines and meeting our class expectations, which we are doing really well with already. On top of that, lots of us have been making new friends and helping each other settle in, which has made our classroom feel like a really friendly and positive place. Altogether, it’s been a brilliant week of learning and teamwork!

Week Ending 5th September 2025

What a fantastic start we’ve had to Year 3! Everyone has settled in brilliantly, and it’s been lovely to see new friendships beginning to grow already.

In History, we’ve started our exciting topic on Ancient Egypt. We’ve been exploring the Valley of the Kings and finding out about the famous archaeologist Howard Carter. The class has been full of curiosity and lots of great questions!

In English, we began reading our new book The Iron Man. Before diving into the story, we wrote our own predictions about what might happen — we can’t wait to see if our guesses were correct as we read on.

To finish off a busy week, we went on our very first school trip to Carroty Wood. It was a brilliant day full of adventure, teamwork, and fun. Everyone represented the school wonderfully, and we can’t wait to share some of the photos with you soon!

What a great start to the year — we’re looking forward to all the learning and adventures ahead in Year 3!
